75 Years of National Disability Employment Awareness Month & 30 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act

Ways to Participate All Year Round!

October marked the long-standing tradition of National Disability Employment Awareness (NDEA) Month. This year was especially important for commemorating both 75 years of NDEAM and 30 years since the passage of the Americans With Disability Act (ADA). The importance of both aligning in the same year reminded us that the rights exist for people with disabilities, but the actions have not. Despite the ADA and other initiatives, millions of people with disabilities are fighting an uphill battle in finding employment.

NDEA Month shines a spotlight on the unemployment crisis faced by people with disabilities, highlights their employment needs, and emphasizes their strengths and contributions. This article focuses on practical and creative ways that businesses, organizations, and ordinary people can get involved in National Disability Employment Awareness Month all year round.
